Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American actor, dancer and singer since the early 1990s. She began her Broadway career performing in musicals such as Wicked, Legally Blonde and Hair. As the character Essie as Essie in You Can't Take It With You she won the Tony Award. Annaleigh is a collaborator on projects with award-winning director, actors and producers throughout the course of her career. Ashford's next project will be a limited edition Hulu series titled Welcome to Chippendales, created by Robert Siegel. The show will premiere on the 22nd of November and Ashford is starring alongside Kumail Najiani. Ashford currently works on Searchlight Pictures' horror thriller Dust opposite Sarah Paulson, Ebon Moss Bachrach and Ebon Mosch Bachrach. The film will stream through Disney's DTC platforms, as well as Hulu Original. Ashford's Broadway return is scheduled to take place in the month of March 2023, when he is paired with Josh Groban for the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre revival of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. The group behind Hamilton producers Jeffrey Seller and director Thomas Kail will be at helm of the production. Ashford was most recently seen as Paula Jones in the new Ryan Murphy FX series American Crime Story Impeachment based on the nation's crisis, which swept across the country. Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp as principal characters in the country's first impeachment trial in more than a century. Her two-season stint on the CBS comedy B Positive was her first major part. It was produced by Chuck Lorre with Marco Pennette. The show featured Linda Lavin as well as Hector Elizondo as well as Ben Vereen. Ashford is no stranger to Broadway. Her performance as Essie on You Can't Take It with You was a winner of the Tony Drama Desk Awards and Outer Critics Circle Awards. Additional Broadway credits are Sunday in the Park with George Wicked Legally Blonde and the originating role of Lauren In Kinky Boots a performance for which she was awarded a second Tony Award nomination. Ashford is from the city of Denver native who now divides his time between Los Angeles.
